EXPERIMENT: DOES THE TYPE OF BUTTER MATTER?

Science

Does the butter that you use when you bake and cook matter? Paul Tran tests this question by baking five variations of his butter cookie recipe and by running a blind taste test with friends.

The cookies were made from scratch with three different types of butter (unsalted, salted, and cultured) and two replacements for butter (margarine and vegan butter).

For the salted butter, he omitted the salt used in the recipe which could have messed up any possibility for a scientific result but it kept the cookie from being inedible.

The order of the cookie samples were determined at random by an iPhone app. It was purely a coincidence that they were in alphabetical order (seriously, he spun a wheel to get the cookie order). THIS WAS TOO MUCH FUN.
